The Friends of the Shiawassee River is one of many organizations throughout the watershed that has joined a collaborative effort to form the Shiawassee River Watershed Coalition. The Mission of the Coalition is to improve and promote public use of the water trail as a valuable resource for low impact recreation and tourism and to support and enhance river conservation and stewardship. Thanks to the work done by the Shiawassee Water Trail Coalition, an 88 mile stretch of the Shiawassee River was designated a State Water Trail in December of 2018 and is in the process of designation to become a National Water Trail. |
